Welcome to Lagos

I was so excited when this show "welcome to Lagos" aired. It is a documentary about Lagos in Nigeria. Lagos is the most populous country in West Africa. Lagos is the New York city of Nigeria. The sad thing is they showed only the slums, dirtiest and poorest parts of Lagos. I thought it was gonna show people who have never been to Lagos how beautiful the city is. The truth is Lagos is a very beautiful city even thought there is a lot going on. Apparently, they only had 3 episodes. I really did not get the point of the whole thing. My roommate who is Nigerian and has never been to Nigeria really thought that was how the whole of Nigeria looked like. She is probably so discouraged about going back. They only good thing that came from this documentary is that Vocal slender became known. His album is on iTunes btw y'all should buy it and help a brother out. If you watch the first episode of Welcome to Lagos you would see what I'm talking about http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8llgvgHxHE .

More on Relaxed times

So this is me with my relaxed Hair. I loved it but it never grew past this length. I would do braids and be so happy about how much under-growth I have. Thinking that my hair would be longer when I take out the braids. The moment I get a perm, so much of my hair falls out, my hair would be just where it was before. I believed in this myth, that so many other blacks/Nigerians still believe, that "black girls can't have long hair." So I just accepted my fate and believed that was how my hair was going to be for the rest of my life.

Relaxers

So, I have had relaxers since I was about 4 years old. I never new how my natural hair was till my Big Chop (BC) last December. The picture on the right is me at 5 years and I already had a perm. My mum could not handle my kinky hair so I got a perm really early. I got relaxers every 3 months and it was quiet normal to get burns, I just dealt with all the pain and scares as long as my hair look straight and a comb could get though it. I was born in Texas but I grew up in Nigeria (10 years) where natural hair is rejected. You have to be some kind of religious person to have natural hair. Relaxer is the Norm in Nigeria, no one wants to see the huge kinky bush on your head.

Hey Bloggers

I'm new to this so don't mind me if I'm a little weird at first.. So I'm sitting in my room with my two roommates who have decided to go natural with me. They got inspired just by seeing my natural hair (which makes me so so happy).
